Indulge in Decadence: How to Create a Charcoal, Ivory, and Metallic Gold Winter Wedding
This is a guest post by Adorn Invitations.
Winter weddings are among some of the most elegant celebrations on the calendar. One of the advantages of a wedding during this season is that venues are often more available (and prices are a lot lower.) As for color selections, the opportunities for classic color schemes are endless. Here, we’re going to talk about a charcoal, ivory, and a metallic gold wedding for winter.
The Stationery: Think luxurious materials and designs. Don’t skimp on the quality here! Look for a thick card in rich black or charcoal, with hot foiled stamping in gold. This adds a warm shimmer to the invitation that contrasts nicely with the shimmery ice outside. This color scheme also gives you the opportunity to bring a modern touch into your ceremony, so look for invitations with quirky and offbeat designs. For example, you may consider asymmetrical styling with flowing lines playing off of the diverse colors. Gold-lined envelopes also make the perfect accessory here.
The Theme: Old Hollywood (think Audrey Hepburn or Princess Grace,) Art Nouveau with its graceful curved lines, or Art Deco with its straight lines and ornamented arches – they all are represented perfectly with this unique and glamorous color palette. An up-do with pin wave curls and cat eye makeup will make a beautiful statement along with a lace-embellished gown. Make a statement with accessories and opt for gold-encrusted shoes and statement earrings.
The Florals: Keep floral arrangements bright and white to contrast against the black and gold décor. This will help balance the darker tones and play up the contrasts. Paper Whites are fresh and aromatic, and keep well as cut flowers. Gardenias are also simple, fresh scented flowers that can make beautiful arrangements. For a modern ceremony, consider adding Ranunculus to the bouquet. Or, a simple bouquet of snow-white Amaryllis.
The Cake: A gold frosted or foiled cake is going to be a show stopper among this glamorous style. A
master patisserie can even reproduce patterns from your invitation in the foil on the wedding cake. Top the decadent desert with fresh flowers from your bouquet and choose a rich chocolate ganache filling.
The Décor: Gold hardware on your table setting will make a beautiful impression against a black table runner; pair this with geometric tea light candles along your table settings for an added element of pattern. If you’re looking to really impress – splurge on a gold dusted candy bar with an assortment of sweet delights. As for the ceremony itself, have aisle markers prepared by your florist using the same flowers in your bouquet. Use calla lilies for boutonnieres and hair ornaments.
The Venue: Traditionally styled restaurants, historic churches, and ball rooms which exude grandeur will create an opulent atmosphere for this winter wedding. Look for décor such as chandeliers and period style features. Chances are, you will have a better chance of getting the venue you really want during this season.
